Joomla 2.5 End of Life

Author // Matthew Baylor Categories // In the News

Have a Joomla 2.5 site? It's time to start planning for a upgrade to Joomla 3.x!

On December 10, 2014 the Joomla Project will release version 2.5.28 which be the last version of the 2.5 series.

What does that mean exactly?

End of Life (EOL) is a software term used when a developer will no longer write new code for or support a particular version of their software.

In Joomla land there are thousands of 3rd party extensions available and you most likely have a few of them installed on your current site. The 3rd party developers will begin discontinuing updates to their 2.5 versions as well as discontinue support for their 2.5 versions.

What should you do?

If you have a Joomla 2.5 site you should consider migrating to Joomla 3.x. Everyone has their own unique situation and may not have the time or budget to upgrade right now but you should plan ahead to migrate in the future.

Joomla 3 brings a whole new level of tools and functions to make using and managing your website easier.
