At Natural Selection Web Design, we had the unique opportunity to not only design the website for the MS Sucks Journal but also create the entire journal itself — every detail from the content to the physical production is done in-house. This project, now live at itreallydoes.com, is more than just a tool for tracking MS symptoms; it’s a labor of love designed by one of us with first hand knowledge of living with Multiple Sclerosis, to help individuals manage their day-to-day experiences with MS in a way that’s functional, relatable, and packed with a little bit of snark.
We didn’t just stop at designing the website — we crafted every single aspect of the journal, down to the spiral binding. The MS Sucks Journal is 100% made in-house, and that includes:
• Book Design: Every section of the journal was thoughtfully designed to be useful, engaging, and a little fun. From the “Flair-Ups of the Day” symptom tracker to the “Energy-o-Meter” section, we made sure that each page serves a purpose while keeping things lighthearted.
• Printing: We print the journals ourselves, using high-quality materials to ensure they stand up to daily use. Each page is crafted with precision and care to ensure they’re easy to write on and durable enough to handle being taken everywhere.
• Spiral Binding: We handle all the binding in-house as well. The spiral-bound design was chosen for its durability and ease of use, allowing the journal to lay flat and making it easy to write in no matter where you are.
By managing every step of the process — from design to final production — we ensure that the MS Sucks Journal is not only of the highest quality but also made with the personal touch that big manufacturers can’t provide.
This journal is packed with features to help those with MS track all aspects of their daily life:
• Symptom Tracking: Easily log symptoms like pain, fatigue, and mobility issues in an organized way.
• Mood Monitoring: Track your emotional highs and lows over the course of days and weeks.
• Medication and Treatment Log: Keep up with medication schedules, side effects, and any changes to your treatment plan.
• Doctor Appointments and Test Results: Jot down key notes during your doctor’s visits and track test results over time.
While living with MS is tough, the MS Sucks Journal uses humor to lighten the load. With witty section titles and a relatable tone, this journal turns the challenge of managing MS into something a bit more approachable. Whether you’re tracking symptoms, mood, or your latest doctor visit, there’s a dash of dark humor in every section.
We’re excited to take the MS Sucks to the next level with the development of an AI-powered app. Still in the early stages of development, users will be able to snap a picture of their daily journal entries, and the app will analyze the data to identify patterns and potential triggers. Whether it’s recurring symptoms tied to specific weather conditions or diet, our goal is to help users better understand their unique experience with MS. The app will provide personalized insights, making it easier to track progress and pinpoint what might be contributing to flare-ups — giving users more control over managing their health.
We’re incredibly proud of the work we’ve put into both the journal and the website. The MS Sucks Journal is a perfect blend of practicality and personality, and it’s available now at itreallydoes.com. If you or someone you know is living with MS, this journal can be a valuable tool for tracking symptoms and staying on top of your health. Plus, every copy is made with care, right here in-house.
