Telemarketer Google Scams

We get roughly 3-4 telemarketer calls a day, most are "robo calls" that these bottom-feeding businesses setup with an auto dialer with the hope of conning small business owners into forking out cash for the perception of getting help that they probably do not need. These businesses try to sell you Google search or business listings through fear-mongering with recorded messages like:

How To Create 301 Redirects for Joomla!

There will be cases where you need to set up a permanent redirect from an old path to a new path. It also allows search engines to know they need to update the links. I would recommend using redirects via your htaccess file rather than using the redirect manager in Joomla! unless it's only temporary.

How to sync users in Joomla! 2.5

Use one login for multiple sites without using an extension.

How to sync users in Joomla! 2.5

In this tutorial, you will learn how to set up your site so you only need one set of users for multiple Joomla installations, as long as they all reside on the same database server. The original idea came from birnik, who wrote a tutorial on how to do it in Joomla! 1.5. It would help if you were familiar with phpMyAdmin to complete this tutorial.

Warning: Please make a backup of your site before trying these steps.

Also be very aware that all users including Super Users will have access to all these sites you set this up on.

Do not trying to restore a slave site to a different server, separated from the master site, without restoring your views into real tables.

The only scenario you should be using this method is if you are building one main site with multiple installs of Joomla.

Written by // Matthew Baylor Categories // New Products / Services, Rants

If you haven't noticed, for the past month I have been having issues with the hosting account for this site.

Luckily, out of all of the sites NSWD hosts, only my own were effected. With the days and weeks of down-time I have had time to think of how we need to move forward and find a better, more reliable solution.

To WWW or not to WWW...

Written by // Matthew Baylor Categories // Rants

One Site - One URL

I recently had a few queries about URL’s, using www, not using www, using both and forwarding different names. In summary, all of the questions were pretty much the same.

Q. What’s the difference they all end up at the same place don’t they?
A. Short answer: Visually yes, but not in the eyes of the search engines.

Variations of URL’s that return the same content are bad Mmkay.  Multiple URL’s, at first glance, seem to be a good idea. I know what you’re thinking. “Hey, it’s more access points to my site. More ways to get there means more traffic, right?

Extension Submission Queue Update

The Joomla! Extensions Directory now houses over 7300 extensions and is growing at a rapid rate!

As of this writing there are 0, zero, zilch, no pending extensions in the new submission queue that are waiting to be processed. However, there are 200+ with errors waiting for developers to make corrections.

Here are some of the most common submission errors that I have seen in the past month.
